Mexican Mule

The Mule made with tequila — earthy agave against lime and ginger, crisp and a little wild.

The Mexican Mule swaps the vodka for tequila. Blanco tequila brings a bright, peppery, earthy agave note that the lime and ginger beer frame beautifully — arguably the most characterful drink in the entire Mule family.

The Mule with the most to say for itself.

Why Tequila Suits the Frame

Tequila and lime are an old, obvious pairing — the Margarita made that plain. Add ginger beer's spice and you have a drink that is part Mule, part Margarita highball: tart, fizzy, and unmistakably agave-forward.

Blanco, Reposado, or Mezcal

Blanco tequila keeps the drink crisp and clean. A reposado adds a gentle oak roundness. And a bar spoon of mezcal — or mezcal in place of the tequila entirely — turns the Mexican Mule smoky, which is no bad thing at all.

A Note on the Lime

Tequila wants a little more acidity than vodka does. If the drink tastes flat, it is almost always the lime — add a fresh squeeze rather than reaching for more ginger beer.
