Cadillac Margarita

The top-shelf Margarita — Grand Marnier and reposado for a richer, deeper, more luxurious drink.

The Cadillac Margarita is the upgrade order — Grand Marnier in place of plain triple sec, usually over a reposado tequila. The cognac base of the Grand Marnier adds richness and depth; the rested tequila adds oak. It is the Margarita at its most luxurious.

Named for the car, and built to the same brief.

What Grand Marnier Adds

Grand Marnier is not a plain orange liqueur — it is built on Cognac, which gives it a richness, weight, and faint barrel warmth that Cointreau and triple sec lack. In a Margarita, that turns a crisp drink into a rounder, deeper, more sippable one.

Reposado for the Base

The Cadillac is usually built on reposado rather than blanco tequila. Reposado's months in oak echo the Grand Marnier's barrel character, and the two together give the drink a warm, integrated, almost autumnal quality.

A Grand Marnier Float

Some bars pour the Grand Marnier as a float over the finished drink rather than shaking it in — a slowly mixing layer of orange-and-cognac richness on the first few sips. It is a small piece of theatre, and a genuinely good one.
